Questions

Does it open old .xls files?

No, only .xlsx (Excel 2007 and later). Open an .xls in Excel or LibreOffice and save it as .xlsx first.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The tool runs inside your browser, and the page is blocked from sending data anywhere. You can check by turning off your internet connection: it keeps working.
